Summer is officially here, and with thanks to the longer evenings and warmer weather, you may be dreaming about those blissful evenings spent over the grill, sipping Sauvignon, or spending some much-needed quality time with family and friends. But if you’re wondering about how to successfully pull of the perfect barbecue or outdoor dining soiree, check out some of our top tips for making every alfresco chow down an amazing one.
Set The Scene
You might notice your hosting area is looking a little forlorn after battling through the winter months. This is Britain after all, so before you get your pinny and spatulas, make sure you’ve spruced up your outdoor furniture, decking and gave that lawn a quick trim.
And, after a quick tidy, why not really set the scene? We love getting a good gazebo up. It’s a great retreat if a slight drizzle occurs, but it can also create a cosy atmosphere if you introduce some fairy lights and candles. A wooden burner is also a great choice if you dine outside often, making sure your guests are warm and relaxed after the sun goes down and there’s a slight chill in the air. Of course there’s also blankets and scatter cushions to keep all comfortable!
A classic BBQ is a common go-to, but there’s nothing worse than your standard overused beef burger and onions, or hot dogs with ketchup. There’s nothing wrong here, of course, but the key to a successful BBQ dinner party is the ‘c word’: choice. Provide your guests with an array of flavours to impress.
We love our chicken and lamb skewers that offer such a diverse range – they’re quick and easy with a style to suit everyone.
Think Piri Piri for spice lovers, Lemon & Pepper to add some summer twang, Moroccan Inspired for those all-important authentic spices, or Hot & Spicy for the bravest of meat-lovers.
As well as making sure you’ve got a wide selection of meat sizzling away on the grill, you’ll also want to make sure you’ve got the best sides and condiments to complement. Don’t just stick to your mustards and salad dressings! Think plenty of salad to tuck into for a light bite, coleslaw, pop some veggies under the grill, and of course plenty of dips and relishes to delight.
We strongly recommend our jams and chutneys. They’re perfect for any occasion, and great alongside so many dishes. Complement steaks, curries or even just serve with crusty bread to take along to an outdoor picnic.
Thinking Inside The Box
A common worry when hosting your outdoor dinner parties, is not knowing how much to buy – especially if you’re firing the grill up and providing a buffet style feast. When you’re not filling up plates, it can be hard to judge. To avoid buying too much and wasting the leftovers, or too little and sending guests home hungry, why not consider a meat box? Containing a varied selection of meat with a set recommended serving size, it’s a quick and stress-free solution for BBQ dinner party planners, and we have a superb selection to help you on your way.
